Interactive summer instruction just took off running, and it's headed in your direction! Are you ready? Join Tiffany Rachann of Imagiread for a fun-filled, interactive literacy workshop that is guaranteed to transform everything you know about why it's so important for kids to intently read during the summer months. Equipped with hands-on activities, resources, and demonstrations, educators will efficiently plan reading programs designed to get and keep everyone reading.
Gardening 101 for Teaching in the Outdoor Classroom In this workshop participants will learn gardening tips, as well as how to incorporate storytelling, measurement and ecology into their lessons whether they are just starting or digging deeper with an afterschool garden project. Participants will leave the workshop with an environmental learning toolkit that will help them use concrete materials in the garden to teach students skills and real world applications in the areas of measurement and literacy.
Wham! Zoom! Creating Comic Books! Explore a comic book curriculum that includes activities to motivate students, encourage writing, creative process and promote reading comprehension. Resources from the CASE for Kids Lending Library will be shared, so you can add comic books to your program this summer.
Hands -On Science! Are you looking to incorporate science into your summer program? Are you concerned that experiments might be too difficult to lead, and time consuming to prepare and clean up? In this workshop, you will explore inquiry based science kits (physical, life and forensic science) that are engaging and easy to lead. Come ready to find out what oobleck is, experiment, learn and laugh!
Summer Success Starts with a Plan Research shows that a quality summer program must have an intentional focus on learning, a broad array of enrichment opportunities, intentional relationship building as well as inclusion of youth voice. In this workshop, we will examine some planning tools, share resources and best practices for a great summer program.
TECH IT OUT This workshop is designed for educators and instructors interested in bringing the amazing thrill of STEM to their afterschool program. Participants will have a hands on experience with constructing, coding and competing with cutting edge educational learning technology. While having fun, participants will be engaged in teamwork, as well as computer programming, problem solving using math, robot engineering, design concepts, and critical thinking. The workshop teaches attendees how to use the high expectations and high interest of STEM and the cutting edge technologies to build a culture where learners are properly challenged while enjoying learning.
